Aberdeen Health and Community Services has two Nurse Practitioners, Laurie and Celia. Our clinic works out of Grand River Community Health Centre, located at 347 Colborne Street, Brantford. Our Nurse Practitioners work with collaborating Physician, Dr. Arash Zohoor. This clinic works to bridge the gap for patients in Brantford without a Family Physician.

Who can attend?

The Aberdeen Health and Community Services NP clinic at the Grand River Community Health Centre serves Brantford and Brant County, with an emphasis on the downtown core of Brantford and the following priority populations:
|
- Individuals/Families without a Family Physician
- The homeless and under-housed
- Those experiencing mental health and addictions issues
- Youth
- Seniors/older adults
- Off-reserve aboriginals without a status card
- Non-insured patients
- Individuals with chronic disease

What is a Nurse Practitioner?
|
|
|
Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses who have additional university education and advanced decision-making training in assessment, diagnosis and management of simple and ongoing illnesses for patients of all ages.
|

|
NPs have the authority to treat many illnesses and injuries as well as to write prescriptions for medications of many types. ABERDEEN'S NURSE PRACTITIONERS DO NO PRESCRIBE NARCOTICS.
|
|
NPs also order laboratory tests, x-rays and other diagnostic exams and can refer patients to other healthcare professionals, including Specialist Physicians.
|
|
The NP can:
- Diagnose, treat, monitor and manage acute (sudden and intense - ie: an ear infection) illness and also chronic (ongoing -ie: diabetes, high blood pressure) illnesses
- Order diagnostic studies (ie: routine lab tests, x-rays, ultrasounds, ECG's)
- Prescribe physical therapy and other rehabilitation treatments
- Prescribe drugs for acute and chronic illness
- Provide prenatal and family planning services
- Provide well-child care, including screening and immunizations
- Provide primary care services, health-maintenance care for adults, including annual physicals
- Suture(stitch) minor, uncomplicated lacerations (cuts)
- Counseling and educating patients on health behaviors, self-care skills and treatment options
