Tips for Proper Foot Care

Check feet daily for cracks, sores or blisters

Wash feet daily using mild soap.  Dry well, especially between toes

If your skin is dry, apply a good lotion or cream (but not between toes)

Do not go barefoot

Do not smoke

Do not use chemicals/corn removers on your feet

Exercise, especially walking, is great for your feet

Tips for Proper Nail Care

Use nail clippers, not scissors

Cut your nails straight across

See a foot care nurse or a podiatrist if you are unable to cut your toenails

When buying shoes…

Natural material such as leather

Rounded toes

Comfortable fit

Room for the longest toe not touching the shoe

A 1” heel as wide as the heel cup and a firm heel counter

A well-cushioned insole

When buying stockings…

Cotton or wool socks allow feet to breathe

No bulky seams or folds

Avoid socks with tight elastics or garters

Keep socks loose over toes
